Well, the Liberated Pixel Cup has ended. There are 48 games competing, and I’m taking my time reviewing them all.
A fair disclaimer: I’m also competing in the Cup. I’ll try to be unbiased though, judge for yourself and give the games a try!
Slime Attack! [Play me!] [Download me!]
This is an HTML5 game. I’m not sure if the author is hosting it somewhere, so I decided to upload it to my server so you can try it out.
The comes with a built-in help screen! This was the first thing I pressed as soon as the game loaded.
The game’s goal is to stop the slimes from reaching the cute princess on the bottom. The slimes spawn from a hole, you have limited coins to place fences (Click the fence you’d like to place, then click anywhere to place it) in strategic positions to stop them, as well as to purchase bait to drive them away from your princess.
Once you’ve set up the fences, you hit the ‘start’ button, and you’re able to hit the slimes using your magic attacks. I found Fire and Water to be completely ineffective against them, though they do use less mana, they move faster than you can cast the spell and I ended up missing very often. Ice, on the other hand, kills as many slimes as it touches, though it does consume a lot more mana and you can use it less often.
The game features 3 different levels, and since you can position the fences in any way you like, there is some replay value in the game.
Over all, it’s an interesting game. Give it a try!
