[LPC] Game Review: Volley Zombie

Well, the Liberated Pixel Cup has ended. There are 48 games competing, and I’m taking my time reviewing them all.

A fair disclaimer: I’m also competing in the Cup. I’ll try to be unbiased though, judge for yourself and give the games a try!

Volley Zombie [Play me!] [Download me!]

This is an HTML5 game. A pretty weird one, too. The game starts out at a beach, with a guy in a suit being approached by a lady in a dress, and asks if he wants to play Volleyball. The controls are pretty simple, and I’m glad the developer actually stops the game to tell you “Use the arrow keys to shoot” “hit the ball by pressing spacebar” because it removes some friction from the game (“How do I play? What do I do?”).

The goal is pretty simple. Smack the orange ball with your head to cross it across the water line. There’s Zombies spawning everywhere, which you can kill by shooting them (out of nowhere?) using the Arrow keys. Once you get to 15 points, you get to the next level. If a zombie hits you, you lose some life, which may be recovered by eating the cherries that sometimes appear on the field.

Over all, the game looks pretty good. The controls are easy to understand, and who doesn’t like slaughtering zombies… while playing volleyball?

  1. Hi, I’m glad you had some fun with it! Hope you tried the ‘normal’ mode too. Cheers
